Godiva Festival.

This weekend the kids and I found ourselves in Coventry for the day whilst the wife was at a training day. So what do you do in a town that you don’t know, with two kids, for the whole day?

Well we were blessed with great weather and the Godiva Festival at the Memorial Park. This was excellent entertainment for us all day there was so much to see that we came away without seeing everything. There were lots of photographic opportunities as well so I had chance to take a few shots. This was not as easy trying to keep an eye on what was happening and on the children as there were lots of people about. We were all impressed with the parade, the costumes and the floats were amazing. There was also street acts, music, stalls, a fair, food, drink and lots of people having a good time.

Cycling display in Oxford

Today we went to see the Animal Braun cruZer Bike Tour 2007 when they visited Oxford to do their display outside the new Animal store on Gloucester Green. I dragged the family down there so I could try and take some action shots with my new camera. I was quite surprised that there wasn’t more people around but we were at the first display of the day. We were all impressed with the acrobatics that were effortlessly done by the two riders Martyn Ashton and Grant Fielder. I was also very pleased with the photos I was able to get, realising that I still have things to learn like time to may be watch the display twice giving me time to review my pictures in between as I had some focusing problems and could have done a bit more experimenting. Anyway at least I was there and its all experience.

Camera upgrade

For a long time now I have been frustrated with our digital camera, missing shots due to the delay. So at the week end I took the plunge and purchased a Nikon D200 and what a difference in response. The first few shots made me jump it was so quick.  Now I can’t wait to get out there and put into practice all the things I have learnt over the years and get to grips with all the technology I now have in my hands.

Learning CSS, Flash and more

In an attempt to learn more work has purchased a course in flash from LearnFlash.com this is a comprehensive set of short film based tutorials from the basics in drawing in flash to how to put a web site together. So far I have learnt a lot and I am now at the stage where I need to put some thing together and see how much has gone in and how much has passed through.

Another thing I need to find out more about is CSS and yesterday a colleague put me on to this site westciv.com which has CSS and web standards tutorials. I’ll give it a go and see what I can do.

Life around the pond.

Walking down the garden yesterday we spotted a dragonfly sat on a reed. So we are now pretty sure the dizzy things are baby dragonfly. We also saw two frogs sat on the ledges around the edges so life in the pond is getting very interesting.
